Hijuelos

Hijuelos
Agaves reproduce in 3 ways, one of them being creating little clones of themselves that grow off of their shallow rhizome root systems. These little pups are called “hijuelos” and as you can see here, each plant can put off quite a few if left to do so! In agave fields meant for tequila production, the hijuelos are harvested and replanted to become full agave on their own. Our friends at @cascahuin are letting this mother do her own thing, we think there are about 13 hijuelos in there!
