What is a NOM?

What is a NOM?

Ever wondered what that little symbol on your bottle of Tequila means?

NOM stands for Norma Oficial Mexicana but usually in the industry, you’ll hear them referred to as NORMAS. NORMAS represent the legal standards that tequilas makers must adhere to when they’re making our beloved spirit and they’re governed by a regulating agency called the CRT. More on them later. Next to the NOM you’ll see a 4 digit number, that number is representative of the distillery where the tequila is made. Some distilleries make just one brand, some make many. The Tequila Matchmaker app and website are a great way to find the NOM for your favorite tequilas and more!
