Fifteen reviewers from The Tequila Report's independent panel each scored more than 350 tequila brands on a 100-point scale. For every brand, the highest and the lowest scores were thrown out and the rest averaged, a method that strips out the reviewer who adores a brand and the one who cannot stand it.

Every brand tasted by at least 7 of the 15 reviewers to qualify.
Highest + lowest scores dropped. The rest averaged. Converted to a 10-point scale.
No brand paid to be included. There was no submission fee, no advertiser consideration, and brands did not see their scores before publication or get to request changes. The scores run from 9.9 at the top to 7.3 at position 150, and the gap between the best tequila and the fortieth-best is smaller than most people assume. As they put it: this is the golden age for the availability of great tequila.
