From the high-altitude mountain villages of Miahuatlan, Neta Tobala Garcia is a rare, small-batch mezcal born from 338 wild-harvested Tobala pinas gathered across three distinct soil types. Master Distiller Gilberto Aquino Garcia coaxed nearly three tons of this prized agave into just 225 liters of a spirit that stands as a benchmark expression of what Tobala from the Sierra Madre del Sur can truly be.

Sourced from the community of San Andres Paxtlan at roughly 2,000 meters above sea level, the Tobala pinas were drawn from red, white, and rocky earth in the oak, pine, and madrona forests of Logoche, Miahuatlan. Working under NOM 142, Gilberto Aquino Garcia produced this release in April 2022, with bottles arriving in Spring 2023, offering a mezcal of remarkable character shaped entirely by its wild origins and mountain terroir.

  • Nose: Pineapple, hints of leather, honey, and summer melon
  • Palate: Fully bodied and mineral rich, with wet earth, dried oregano, and overripe stone fruit
  • Finish: Complex and lingering, with bits of pine and citrus

The depth and savory mineral quality of Neta Tobala Garcia make it a natural companion to a Mezcal Negroni or an Oaxacan Old Fashioned, where its earthy complexity can shine alongside bitter and sweet counterparts.

Best enjoyed neat in a wide-mouthed glass to fully open the aromas, with a small pour of room-temperature water nearby to explore its evolving character. Neta Tobala Garcia is a wild Tobala mezcal from Logoche, Miahuatlan, produced under the care of Gilberto Aquino Garcia.
