About Nuestra Soledad Mezcal

Nuestra Soledad is a set of six mezcals, each named for its village and made by a different family of mezcaleros in Oaxaca, all from 100% Espadín to show how place and each maker's methods shape one agave. It belongs to Casa Cortés, the Santiago Matatlán family that has made mezcal since 1840 and also bottles El Jolgorio and Agave de Cortés. Rolando Cortés, a fifth-generation member of the family, brought it to export in 2010. The agave is roasted in earthen pit ovens, crushed with a tahona, fermented in open-air wooden vats with wild yeast and distilled in copper stills over a wood fire.
