Four years of patient aging in single-barrel American oak transforms hand-selected lowlands agave into something genuinely rare: an extra anejo tequila that layers bourbon-like richness with the bright, peppery character unique to the Tequila, Jalisco highlands lowlands valley.
Crafted by brothers Eduardo and Jaime Orendain at the El Llano distillery (NOM 1109) in the town of Tequila, Jalisco, Gran Clase begins with agaves hand-selected in the field exclusively for this expression. The mosto ferments naturally in traditional stone tanks, coaxing out a deep sweetness from over-ripe agave that carries through every stage of production. After 48 months resting in single-barrel bourbon American oak, the result is a richly structured extra anejo with unmistakable depth and finesse.
- Nose: Agave-forward with mild wood notes, sweet tropical fruit balanced against light jalapeno and bell pepper, a hallmark of this lowlands extra anejo.
- Palate: Fresh-cut wood and dark caramel sweetness with traces of malt and vanilla.
- Finish: Slightly thick with a bright, spicy finish and balanced complexity that never lets oak overpower.
The bourbon-forward aging profile makes Arette Gran Clase Extra Anejo a sophisticated choice for an Old Fashioned or a Tequila Manhattan, where its caramel depth and spiced finish shine alongside a quality bitters and a single large ice cube.
Best enjoyed neat or on a single large rock to let the full complexity unfold. Arette Gran Clase Extra Anejo is produced from lowlands blue agave in the Tequila, Jalisco region of Mexico.
