Why we love Bozal Tobasiche Mezcal

  • A subspecies of the Karwinskii family of agave, Tobasiche is a wild agave that needs twelve to thirteen years to fully mature. This agave is typically characterized by its herbaceous and cedar-like aromatics with an earthy finish.
  • This mezcal exerts traces of quince, anise and a strong minerality with a sweet nose. The bouquet is complemented by rich, herbaceous botanicals on the finish.
  • 94 proof / 47% ABV / 750mL bottle

Tasting Notes

Aroma: sweet and vegetal cooked agave, quince, anise

Palate: strong minerality with a herbaceous bouquet, stewed stonefruit, and a rich mouthfeel

Finish: lasting, complex and dry

About the Brand

The Spanish term Bozal, translates to “wild” or “untamed.” Bozal chose this name for their Mezcal in reference to the wild species of Mexican agave grown in hard-to-reach, uncultivated lands of Oaxaca, Guerrero and Durango. As well as for the untamed traditions used by their family-operated distilleries, or mezcaleros, to distill small batches in those same locations. For every one maguey harvested to produce Bozal Mezcal, two are planted in a mountainside wild nursery to be transported back into the wild after one to two years
