A collector's obsession and a connoisseur's reward, the Codigo 1530 Rare Hare 2nd Edition Double Barrel Anejo is a limited-release tequila that pushes the boundaries of traditional aging through a rare double barrel finishing process.

Crafted by Codigo 1530 using estate-grown blue Weber agave from the highlands of Jalisco, this anejo tequila undergoes an extended maturation in two distinct barrel types, layering complexity and depth that single-barrel expressions simply cannot achieve. The Rare Hare series is among the most sought-after limited releases in Codigo's portfolio, making each edition a genuine piece of artisan tequila history.

  • Nose: Rich and inviting, with warm notes of toasted oak, vanilla, and dried fruit supported by subtle hints of caramel and baking spice
  • Palate: Velvety and full-bodied, delivering waves of dark chocolate, roasted agave, toffee, and a whisper of tobacco that speaks to the dual barrel influence
  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering wood spice, sweet cream, and a touch of smoked leather that fades beautifully

This double barrel anejo shines when sipped neat or on a single large ice cube, though it also elevates a classic Old Fashioned or a Tequila Manhattan with its rich, barrel-forward character.

Best enjoyed neat to appreciate its full complexity; crafted from 100% blue Weber agave in the Jalisco region of Mexico.

Código 1530 comes from a single distillery in Amatitán, Jalisco, where a local distilling family made this private recipe for generations. Mature lowland Blue Weber agave is cooked in autoclaves, fermented with local yeast and distilled twice, with water filtered through the volcanic soil of the valley. Every rested expression ages in French white oak barrels that once held Napa Valley Cabernet. Ron Snyder, Federico Vaughan, Betsy Heneghan and country legend George Strait founded the brand in 2017. The name honors Los Códigos, the old customs of Amatitán, and the label carries the Jerusalem Cross from the Jalisco coat of arms.
LOCATION

Amatitán, Jalisco

Amatitán sits in the Tequila valley of Jalisco, a short drive southeast of the town of Tequila. Half of the municipality is flat farmland, mostly red clay soils over volcanic basalt, and blue agave is its main crop in a hot, dry climate with summer rains. Local tradition holds that tequila was first distilled in the nearby Tecuane barranca, where an early distillery site is still a local landmark. Amatitán lies within the Agave Landscape that UNESCO named a World Heritage Site in 2006.
