Grown wild over the high-desert mountains of Southern Mexico, the karwinskii Largo maguey takes up to 14 years to reach its full, trunk-like form before master distiller German Arellanes Arellanes transforms it into one of Oaxaca's most compelling mezcals.
Produced in Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca at an elevation of 4,800 feet, Don Amado Largo Mezcal is crafted entirely from elongated karwinskii maguey trunks harvested at peak maturity. Those distinctive spear-like trunks are earth-pit roasted alongside round pinas of complementary species, a traditional process that draws out layers of soft smoke and rich, cooked agave character unique to this remote Oaxacan region.
- Nose: Soft smoke with candied sweetness, fresh desert air after rainfall, and a creamy, fruit-forward lift
- Palate: Lush cooked maguey, tropical fruit, subtle spice, and a silky mouthfeel that speaks to the karwinskii agave's long maturation
- Finish: Bright and clean with lingering mineral warmth and a gentle herbal fade
Don Amado Largo Mezcal shines when sipped neat or on a large ice cube, though its creamy texture and measured smoke make it an exceptional base for a Mezcal Negroni or an Oaxacan Old Fashioned.
Best enjoyed neat or lightly chilled to honor its rare karwinskii Largo agave character. Sourced from the highlands of Santa Catarina Minas, Oaxaca, and produced by master distiller German Arellanes Arellanes using time-honored traditional methods.
