El Mexicano Reposado is a study in quiet elegance, resting in a blend of French and American oak barrels to produce a tequila that bridges the fresh vitality of highland agave with the warmth of barrel maturation.

Crafted in the traditions of Mexican tequila production, El Mexicano Reposado spends its time in a carefully selected combination of 20% French oak and 80% American oak barrels, drawing complexity and color from each. The result is a brilliant straw yellow spirit with golden nuances and a silver rim that speaks to its youthful energy.

  • Nose: Cooked agave, vanilla, maple, and ripe apricot open with warmth and sweetness.
  • Palate: Cooked agave leads into notes of oak, creamy vanilla, and rich butter, layered with the gentle influence of two distinct barrel types.
  • Finish: Smooth and lingering, with soft wood and sweet vanilla fading gracefully.

El Mexicano Reposado is a natural fit for a classic Tequila Old Fashioned or a refined Paloma, where its oak-driven depth and natural sweetness can shine without being overwhelmed.

Best enjoyed neat or over a large cube to let the barrel character develop in the glass. El Mexicano Reposado pairs beautifully with red meats, fresh cheeses, milk chocolate, and fruit-forward desserts.

More than 50 years ago, Don Félix Bañuelos and his family partnered with friends to start the distillery behind Tequila Cazadores. Today brothers León Jr. and Willy Bañuelos make El Mexicano with their father, León Sr., at Hacienda El Mexicano (NOM 1588) in the highlands of Arandas. Highland agave is slow cooked in autoclaves, roller milled, and fermented in open-air tanks while classical music plays. It is double distilled in custom stainless steel pot stills, and the distillery's terracotta walls were colored with the region's red clay soil.

Arandas sits at about 2,000 meters in Los Altos de Jalisco, the highland plateau east of Guadalajara. Its red, clay-rich soils and mild, temperate climate let blue agave grow slowly and build up sugar, the source of the sweet, fruity and floral style the Highlands are known for. Agave fields cover much of the municipality, and Arandas is one of the busiest tequila-making towns in Mexico. The town is also known for its giant church bell, often called the largest in Latin America.
