The House of Rare Reposado offers an entry point into our aging philosophy and reveals how a thoughtful barrel program can elevate even the youngest expressions. Building on the minerality, sweet agave, and herbal notes of House Blanco, six months in PX sherry casks lend an elegant juiciness that both complements and deepens the tequila’s natural character. Compared with the American oak more commonly used for reposado aging, House of Rare’s signature PX sherry casks, which are often delivered from Spain directly after they are drained, bring a dimension and depth of flavor more often associated with much older expressions or small-batch single barrels.

Bottled at the same 40% ABV as House Blanco, House of Rare Reposado sets a new benchmark for the standard reposado category.

TASTING NOTES

Nose

Expressive and composed. Cooked agave sits at the center, framed by concentrated notes of raisin, date, and dried fig-like fruit. Honey, caramel, and a touch of citrus peel bring lift and contrast, while a restrained herbal note and gentle oak keep the aromatic profile precise rather than overtly dessert-like.

Palate

Textured and well integrated. Sweet roasted agave leads, followed by darker notes of brown sugar, fig preserve, and dense honeyed richness. Mid-palate, the cask influence becomes more apparent through soft cinnamon, light baking spice, and toasted oak. A subtle herbal freshness threads through the sweetness, adding tension and preserving balance.

Finish

Long, supple, and controlled. Lingering agave sweetness and dried fruit carry forward into warm PX character, soft spice, and light oak. The finish remains rounded and elegant, with enough dryness on the close to keep the profile structured and refined.

House of Rare began as a private barrel collection. Founder Miguel Ortiz came from the world of fine whiskey and tasted more than 90 Extra Añejos before buying part of a seven-year French oak cask, enough for 177 bottles of RAREcask #1. Since then he has led more than 20 RAREcask collaborations with distilleries including Cascahuín, Arette and Atanasio, in casks from Pedro Ximénez sherry to Calvados and tawny port. Casks are filled as fresh as possible, sometimes days after draining. The Blanco and Reposado are made at the Herencia de Agaves estate in El Arenal, with volcanic well water and open-air fermentation.
LOCATION

El Arenal, Jalisco

El Arenal sits at about 1,450 meters in the Tequila valley west of Guadalajara and is known as the gateway to agave country. Its name comes from the sandy ground of the first settlement, and it belonged to Amatitán until it became its own municipality in 1923. Most of the land is flat or gently rolling farmland on volcanic rock, planted with blue agave and corn. Tequila making is the main industry, and the town lies within the Agave Landscape that UNESCO named a World Heritage Site in 2006.
