Siete Leguas 47 High Proof Blanco is built for those who want their tequila to say something. This elevated release from one of Jalisco's most storied distilleries cranks the intensity dial on everything that makes Siete Leguas legendary, delivering bold, unfiltered agave character at a proof that commands attention.

Crafted in the highlands tradition that defines Siete Leguas, this blanco begins with mature blue agave harvested at peak ripeness. Slow-cooked in traditional brick ovens and double-distilled in copper pot stills, the production process preserves the full spectrum of the agave plant's natural oils and volatile compounds, a quality that high-proof expression amplifies rather than masks.

  • Nose: Bright citrus and fresh lime open the aroma, giving way to layers of mint and cool herbal notes that signal the agave's quality before the first sip.
  • Palate: Cooked agave and sweet vanilla anchor the mid-palate, while jalapeno heat and cracked black pepper build steadily alongside a clean, briny minerality that keeps every sip grounded and complex.
  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering spice and a green, herbaceous echo that fades slowly and cleanly.

The Siete Leguas 47 High Proof Blanco holds its own in a Spicy Tommy's Margarita, where the jalapeno and citrus notes snap into focus, but it is equally rewarding poured neat alongside a single large ice cube in an Old Fashioned-style spirit-forward build.

Best enjoyed neat or with a single sphere of ice to open up its aromas. Produced from 100% blue agave in the highlands of Jalisco, this is a high-proof blanco tequila that rewards patience and attention in equal measure.

Siete Leguas has been made in Atotonilco el Alto since 1952, when Don Ignacio González Vargas named his tequila after Pancho Villa's famously tireless mare. The González family still runs two distilleries side by side on the edge of town. At El Centenario, cooked agave is crushed by a stone tahona pulled by mules and fermented with its fibers. At La Vencedora, built in 1984, a roller mill and larger stills do the work, and the two are blended together. Patrón was made here from 1989 to 2002, and bartenders on both sides of the border still treat Siete Leguas as the benchmark for traditional highland tequila.

Atotonilco el Alto sits on the southern edge of Los Altos de Jalisco, where the land rises from about 1,600 to 2,200 meters above the Ciénega plain. Its Nahuatl name means place of hot water, after the warm springs around town. Blue agave grows across the surrounding farmland in clay soils over volcanic basalt, and tequila making is the municipality's largest industry and employer. Highland agave from here is known for a sweet, fruity and floral profile.
