Tequila Trujillo comes from a family that has grown agave in Capilla de Guadalupe, in Los Altos de Jalisco, since 1969, and for decades supplied it to other well-known tequila brands. It all began with Manuel Trujillo, who remains the family's spiritual guide. Agaves grow six to seven years before harvest, then cook for 48 hours in brick ovens, ferment for 72 hours and run through copper stills that the family says are the two largest in the Americas. The lineup focuses on blanco, including Crystal, which Trujillo calls Mexico's first blanco cristalino.

Capilla de Guadalupe is a small city in the municipality of Tepatitlán, in Los Altos de Jalisco, set at about 2,020 meters on a highland valley ringed by hills such as Cerro Gordo. Founded in 1820, it lies inside the tequila denomination of origin, and tequila is its leading industry, along with agave syrup and inulin made from the same plant. The red soils and cool winters of the plateau, where snow has occasionally fallen, suit slow-growing blue agave.
