─ Behind the Brand ─

About House of Rare Tequila

House of Rare began as a private barrel collection. Founder Miguel Ortiz came from the world of fine whiskey and tasted more than 90 Extra Añejos before buying part of a seven-year French oak cask, enough for 177 bottles of RAREcask #1. Since then he has led more than 20 RAREcask collaborations with distilleries including Cascahuín, Arette and Atanasio, in casks from Pedro Ximénez sherry to Calvados and tawny port. Casks are filled as fresh as possible, sometimes days after draining. The Blanco and Reposado are made at the Herencia de Agaves estate in El Arenal, with volcanic well water and open-air fermentation.

Location: El Arenal, Jalisco
Distillery: Herencia de Agaves
Agave: Blue Weber, harvested within 10 km of the distillery
Fermentation: Open air
