San Francisco Nuxaño is a small mountain municipality of a few hundred people in the Nochixtlán district, in Oaxaca's Mixteca Alta northwest of Oaxaca City. The land here is high, with pine forest on the slopes, a long way from the mezcal valleys around Matatlán.
