Compoveda Anejo is a rare double-barrel aged tequila that layers the warmth of ex-bourbon oak with the sophisticated finish of Stag's Leap Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, producing a spirit unlike anything in the standard tequila category.

This anejo spends 16 months in barrel, split evenly between ex-bourbon and ex-red wine casks, giving the agave spirit ample time to develop a rich amber hue and complex character. The crowning touch is a finishing period in Stag's Leap Cabernet Sauvignon barrels, a Napa Valley icon, which imparts dried berry notes and soft tannins that elevate Compoveda Anejo well beyond the conventional aging process.

  • Nose: Warm oak and vanilla lead with hints of dried dark fruit and subtle caramel, a welcoming and layered introduction.
  • Palate: Rich and rounded with baked agave sweetness, toasted wood, blackberry, and a whisper of wine-soaked spice that builds gently across the tongue.
  • Finish: Long and smooth with lingering tannins, dried cherry, and a soft oakiness that fades elegantly without overpowering the agave character.

Compoveda Anejo shines served neat or on a single large ice cube, but it also brings exceptional depth to a Tequila Old Fashioned or an elevated Paloma where its wine-barrel complexity can truly shine through.

Best enjoyed neat or lightly chilled to appreciate its full double-barrel profile. Compoveda Anejo is crafted from blue agave and represents the brand's most mature and refined expression in its lineup.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: rich vanilla and toasted almonds, layered with dried figs and dates, leather, and pipe tobacco

Palate: round and full. Dark cherry and plum from the red wine barrels, balanced by nutmeg, clove, and black pepper. Buttery, with a pleasant chew

Finish: medium long and spicy, drying to toasted oak and a whisper of cocoa

Compoveda is a sipping tequila founded by Keith Antoon and made with three master distillers at three family distilleries in Jalisco. Sergio Cruz makes the Blanco at NOM 1414 in Arandas, Sixto Verá García makes the Reposado and Añejo at NOM 1068 in Capilla de Guadalupe, and Alberto Partida makes the Extra Añejo at NOM 1477 in El Arenal. The agave grows at least seven years and is hand harvested, then roasted low and slow for nearly 48 hours. The aged bottles rest in ex-bourbon and Stag's Leap Cabernet barrels, or in French oak that once held California red wine. It all began with Partida's Extra Añejo.

Map of Jalisco, Mexico, with Capilla de Guadalupe marked

Capilla de Guadalupe is a small city in the municipality of Tepatitlán, in Los Altos de Jalisco, set at about 2,020 meters on a highland valley ringed by hills such as Cerro Gordo. Founded in 1820, it lies inside the tequila denomination of origin, and tequila is its leading industry, along with agave syrup and inulin made from the same plant. The red soils and cool winters of the plateau, where snow has occasionally fallen, suit slow-growing blue agave.
