A landmark of the Los Altos highlands, El Tesoro Reposado Tequila is crafted at the storied La Altena distillery in Arandas and aged nine to eleven months in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, striking a rare balance between raw agave character and refined wood influence.

Produced at NOM 1139, El Tesoro draws on highland blue Weber agave grown in the mineral-rich soils of Arandas, Jalisco. La Altena's traditional tahona process preserves the agave's natural intensity, giving this reposado tequila a depth and authenticity that sets it apart from the category.

  • Nose: Grilled fruits, fresh agave, and orange blossom honey
  • Palate: Juicy and fruity with agave, light smoke, butterscotch, toasted oak, and earthy undertones
  • Finish: Lightly smoky and spicy with a clean, lingering warmth

El Tesoro Reposado tequila shines in a classic Paloma or an elevated Tequila Old Fashioned, where its smoky, butterscotch-laced character adds complexity without overpowering the glass.

Best enjoyed neat or on the rocks to fully appreciate its highland terroir. Crafted from 100% blue Weber agave in Arandas, Los Altos, Jalisco.

El Tesoro is made at La Alteña, a highland distillery in Arandas, Jalisco, that has been making tequila since 1937. Fully mature estate agave grown in iron-rich red clay is steamed for 48 hours, then crushed with a two-ton volcanic tahona stone. The juice and fibers ferment together in open wooden vats with natural yeast, and the tequila is double distilled to proof in small copper pot stills, so no water is ever added. Every bottle is labeled by hand. Jenny Camarena now leads as master distiller, the first woman to hold the title at La Alteña.
LOCATION

Arandas, Jalisco

Arandas sits at about 2,000 meters in Los Altos de Jalisco, the highland plateau east of Guadalajara. Its red, clay-rich soils and mild, temperate climate let blue agave grow slowly and build up sugar, the source of the sweet, fruity and floral style the Highlands are known for. Agave fields cover much of the municipality, and Arandas is one of the busiest tequila-making towns in Mexico. The town is also known for its giant church bell, often called the largest in Latin America.
