A bold meeting of two worlds, the El Tesoro Mundial Collection Laphroaig Edition Anejo is a limited release tequila finished in genuine Laphroaig 10-Year-Old Scotch whisky casks, bringing the windswept coast of Islay to the highlands of Jalisco. The result is a one-of-a-kind anejo tequila that carries the soul of El Tesoro alongside unmistakable whispers of salt, smoke, and sea.

Crafted in the Highlands of Jalisco using El Tesoro's time-honored tahona process, this anejo is aged for a full 12 months in American oak before spending additional time in authentic Laphroaig casks. Those casks, steeped in the legacy of one of Scotch whisky's most celebrated peated single malts, impart a character that is entirely unlike any other tequila in the El Tesoro lineup. The agave-forward foundation of El Tesoro anejo remains intact, elevated now by the briny, smoky influence of its Scotch whisky origins.

  • Nose: Roasted agave and warm vanilla open alongside drifting peat smoke and a faint brine, evoking coastal air and the earthy sweetness of highland blue agave.
  • Palate: Rich cooked agave and caramel lead, with layers of smoked oak, dark dried fruit, and a savory minerality that sets this limited release apart from any conventional anejo tequila.
  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering peat smoke, sea salt, and a clean agave sweetness that grounds the whisky influence beautifully.

The El Tesoro Mundial Laphroaig Edition holds its own neat or on a single large ice cube, but it also makes a compelling base for a smoky Tequila Old Fashioned or a unexpected twist on a Penicillin, swapping Scotch for this rare anejo to stunning effect.

Best enjoyed neat or over a single rock to let the cask influence fully unfold. Produced from 100% highland blue Weber agave in Jalisco, Mexico, this is a collector-worthy limited release from one of tequila's most respected houses.

El Tesoro is made at La Alteña, a highland distillery in Arandas, Jalisco, that has been making tequila since 1937. Fully mature estate agave grown in iron-rich red clay is steamed for 48 hours, then crushed with a two-ton volcanic tahona stone. The juice and fibers ferment together in open wooden vats with natural yeast, and the tequila is double distilled to proof in small copper pot stills, so no water is ever added. Every bottle is labeled by hand. Jenny Camarena now leads as master distiller, the first woman to hold the title at La Alteña.
LOCATION

Arandas, Jalisco

Arandas sits at about 2,000 meters in Los Altos de Jalisco, the highland plateau east of Guadalajara. Its red, clay-rich soils and mild, temperate climate let blue agave grow slowly and build up sugar, the source of the sweet, fruity and floral style the Highlands are known for. Agave fields cover much of the municipality, and Arandas is one of the busiest tequila-making towns in Mexico. The town is also known for its giant church bell, often called the largest in Latin America.
