Tapatio Anejo Tequila stands as one of the most celebrated expressions from Jalisco, crafted with an unwavering commitment to traditional production that has defined this iconic brand for generations. For tequila lovers seeking depth, complexity, and a genuinely authentic Mexican spirit, Tapatio Anejo delivers at every pour.

Produced at La Alteña Distillery in the town of Arandas, deep in Jalisco, Tapatio Anejo is made exclusively from 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the region's distinctive red clay soil. Master distiller Carlos Camarena follows a time-honored process that includes traditional tahona stone crushing, open-air fermentation with natural airborne yeasts, and double distillation in copper pot stills. The spirit is then aged in American oak barrels for a minimum of 12 months, allowing the bright, fruity character of the highlands agave to develop a rich and rewarding maturity.

  • Nose: Warm vanilla, dried fruit, toasted oak, and a subtle floral sweetness with hints of butterscotch and cooked agave
  • Palate: Rich caramel, cinnamon spice, roasted agave, dark chocolate, and a touch of candied orange peel layered over a smooth, creamy texture
  • Finish: Long, warm, and gently sweet with lingering oak, baking spice, and a clean herbal note that reflects the spirit's highland agave roots

Tapatio Anejo shines in an Anejo Old Fashioned, where its caramel and spice notes pair beautifully with a touch of agave nectar and aromatic bitters. It is equally stunning served neat or on a single large ice cube, allowing the spirit's full complexity to open up slowly in the glass.

Best enjoyed neat or on the rocks to appreciate its full depth of character. Tapatio Anejo Tequila is crafted from 100% Blue Weber agave, sourced from Jalisco, Mexico.

Tapatío is made at La Alteña, the Camarena family distillery founded in 1937 in the highlands of Arandas, Jalisco (NOM 1139), where Jenny Camarena is now master distiller. First sold in 1940, it is still produced in small batches the traditional way. Highland agave is cooked in stone ovens, crushed by tahona and roller mill, and fermented in wooden vats with the agave fibers. Every expression is distilled twice in small copper pot stills, and the Blanco 110 is bottled at 110 proof for more flavor and less water.

Map of Jalisco, Mexico, with Arandas marked

Arandas sits at about 2,000 meters in Los Altos de Jalisco, the highland plateau east of Guadalajara. Its red, clay-rich soils and mild, temperate climate let blue agave grow slowly and build up sugar, the source of the sweet, fruity and floral style the Highlands are known for. Agave fields cover much of the municipality, and Arandas is one of the busiest tequila-making towns in Mexico. The town is also known for its giant church bell, often called the largest in Latin America.
