A rare collaboration between El Gran Legado and Tequila Wanderer, this limited-release single barrel anejo is a collector's dream: 16 months of patient aging in ex-Rabbit Hole Bourbon American Oak barrels, followed by 30 days of stainless steel stabilization before bottling.

Crafted under the watchful eye of Master Distiller Salvador "Chava" Rosales at NOM 1123, this expression represents everything that makes small-batch, single barrel tequila worth seeking out. The choice of ex-Rabbit Hole Bourbon barrels imparts a distinctly American whiskey influence onto a traditionally Jalisco-rooted spirit, creating a bridge between two great distilling traditions.

  • Nose: Rich barrel character with warm vanilla, toasted oak, and hints of dried fruit carried over from the bourbon wood
  • Palate: Layered and smooth, with caramel, baking spice, and a subtle earthiness that speaks to the agave at its core
  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering oak, light toffee, and a clean, polished close from the stainless steel rest

This single barrel anejo holds its own neat or on a single large ice cube, but it also brings exceptional depth to an Anejo Old Fashioned or a refined Tequila Manhattan where its bourbon-barrel heritage truly shines.

Best enjoyed slowly to appreciate its complexity. A VAULT-level limited release from El Gran Legado, made with estate blue agave and the singular vision of Chava Rosales.

El Gran Legado de Vida grows its blue agave on a single estate in Michoacán, where the first seedlings went in the ground in 2017. Founder Steve Vera built the brand at the Cascahuín distillery in El Arenal and has since moved production to Destiladora Juanacatlán, NOM 1551. Mature piñas are halved, hand stacked into brick ovens and slow cooked, then fermented and double distilled. The spirit leaves the still at 55% and is brought down to 40% with deep well water, except the Still Strength, bottled straight from the still at 54.5%. The brand sums it up as No Steps Skipped.

El Arenal sits at about 1,450 meters in the Tequila valley west of Guadalajara and is known as the gateway to agave country. Its name comes from the sandy ground of the first settlement, and it belonged to Amatitán until it became its own municipality in 1923. Most of the land is flat or gently rolling farmland on volcanic rock, planted with blue agave and corn. Tequila making is the main industry, and the town lies within the Agave Landscape that UNESCO named a World Heritage Site in 2006.
