Don Julio Blanco is the spirit that launched a legend, a highland tequila so clean and expressive it redefined what unaged agave could be. Crafted in the heart of Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco, this is the benchmark blanco that belongs in every serious collection.

Produced at Diageo Mexico Operaciones under NOM 1449, Don Julio Blanco is made from fully mature blue Weber agave grown in the rich, iron-rich soils of the Jalisco highlands. The agave is slow-roasted in traditional ovens, then distilled to preserve the natural sweetness and complexity that makes this region's tequila so distinctive. Bottled immediately after distillation, it captures the purest expression of the agave plant.

  • Nose: Fresh citrus zest, sweet cooked agave, and light floral notes with a hint of white pepper and mint.
  • Palate: Bright and vibrant, with ripe grapefruit, lemon, warm vanilla, and a gentle earthiness that speaks to the highland terroir.
  • Finish: Clean and lingering, with a smooth warmth and a final whisper of herbal agave sweetness.

Don Julio Blanco shines in a classic Tequila Margarita, where its citrus-forward brightness holds its own against fresh lime, and it is equally at home in a simple Paloma, letting the agave character lead alongside grapefruit soda.

Best enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or as the foundation of your favorite agave cocktail. Made from 100% blue Weber agave in Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco.

Don Julio is named for Don Julio González, who founded his La Primavera distillery in Atotonilco el Alto, in the Jalisco Highlands, in 1942. Jimador families who have worked with the brand for three generations harvest the agave plant by plant. The piñas are cooked in masonry ovens, fermented with a yeast strain Don Julio developed himself, and distilled twice in pot stills. He was among the first to age tequila beyond the standard rules. Ultima Reserva is made from the last agave field he planted with his family, in 2006.

Map of Jalisco, Mexico, with Atotonilco el Alto marked

Atotonilco el Alto sits on the southern edge of Los Altos de Jalisco, where the land rises from about 1,600 to 2,200 meters above the Ciénega plain. Its Nahuatl name means place of hot water, after the warm springs around town. Blue agave grows across the surrounding farmland in clay soils over volcanic basalt, and tequila making is the municipality's largest industry and employer. Highland agave from here is known for a sweet, fruity and floral profile.
