Why we love Fuenteseca Reserva Extra Añejo 5 Year

  • 62% of this expression’s tequila was column-distilled, then aged in European barrels of the variety Quercus robur (also known as Common Oak or Pedunculate Oak) that were previously used to age wine
  • 38% of the tequila in this lot was distilled in an Alembic pot still, then aged in French Oak barrels from central Europe
  • The barrel staves are of delicate wood, previously used to aged Royal Lochnagar Select Reserve Sherry. Each cask fill provides a wide range of different flavor possibilities
  • 82.6 proof / 41.3% ABV / Bottle Size: 750mL

Tasting Notes

Aroma: dried cherries, barrel spice is present, warm caramel, cooked agave

Palate: touches of agave sweetness, toasty oak tannins, slightly drying with cinnamon spice, stewed fruit

Finish: lasting heat with unrolling fruitiness

About the Brand

Enrique Fonseca began experimenting with aging extra añejo tequilas back in the early 2000’s and not only varies the time the Tequila rests, but the types of barrels and altitudes in which they do so. From the traditional American and French oak barrels to used bourbon casks, or wine barrels, Enrique has created some of the most unique aged tequilas available. The Fuenteseca line starts at a minimum of 5 years and reaches all the way up to 21 years. Given that blue weber agave takes 8-10 years to mature to be used to make tequila, these expressions can take nearly 30 years to produce
