A rare expression even by Tequila Ocho's exacting standards, the Plata Puntas 108 is a limited-release blanco drawn exclusively from the puntas, the purest and most volatile fraction of the distillation run, captured at a remarkable 108 proof before any reduction.

Produced at Cia. Tequilera Los Alambiques under NOM 1474 in the highland appellation of Arandas, Jalisco, this 2024 vintage follows Ocho's signature single-estate philosophy, honoring the terroir of the agave source with minimal intervention and no chill filtration. The puntas cut delivers a concentrated, high-proof expression that retains the lifted floral and citrus character the Arandas highlands are celebrated for.

  • Nose: Bright and intensely aromatic, with white flowers, fresh lime zest, green herbs, and a wave of raw agave sweetness that signals the purity of the puntas cut.
  • Palate: Bold and layered, offering roasted agave, citrus pith, black pepper, and a mineral salinity that reflects the rich red clay soils of the Los Altos region.
  • Finish: Long and warming, with lingering herbaceous notes, sweet cooked agave, and a clean heat that fades gracefully.

The Plata Puntas 108 holds its own in a Paloma or a Tommy's Margarita, where its high-proof intensity cuts beautifully through citrus and sweetener, but it is equally compelling served neat to appreciate everything that makes this limited release exceptional.

Best enjoyed neat or with a single ice cube to open up the aromatics; crafted from blue agave grown in the highlands of Arandas, Jalisco.

Tequila Ocho was founded in 2008 by Carlos Camarena, a fifth-generation agave farmer and third-generation tequilero, and the late Tomas Estes. Each vintage comes from a single estate, so every harvest tastes a little different. At Los Alambiques in Arandas, ripe highland agave is steamed for 48 hours in brick ovens, crushed in a roller mill and fermented with wild airborne yeast in wooden vats. It is distilled twice, first in stainless steel, then in copper. The name comes from the eighth sample the Camarenas made for Tomas.

Map of Jalisco, Mexico, with Arandas marked

Arandas sits at about 2,000 meters in Los Altos de Jalisco, the highland plateau east of Guadalajara. Its red, clay-rich soils and mild, temperate climate let blue agave grow slowly and build up sugar, the source of the sweet, fruity and floral style the Highlands are known for. Agave fields cover much of the municipality, and Arandas is one of the busiest tequila-making towns in Mexico. The town is also known for its giant church bell, often called the largest in Latin America.
