A rare meeting of two worlds, this limited edition reposado tequila from El Tequileno unites Tony Salles, third-generation master distiller at NOM 1108, with Sassenach Spirits founder Sam Heughan in a collaboration that bridges the highlands of Jalisco and the whisky traditions of Scotland. Two years in American oak followed by a four-month finish in French oak barrels sets this double wood expression apart from anything else in the reposado category.
Crafted in the Tequila region of Jalisco using highland agave, volcanic spring water from the Volcan de Tequila, and a traditional production process that includes autoclaves, open fermentation, copper pot stills, and pipones, this spirit carries the full weight of El Tequileno's heritage. It is 100% additive-free and verified by Tequila Matchmaker, and the distillery leads the industry in sustainability, repurposing 98% of all production byproducts back into the distillery and agave fields.
- Nose: Cooked agave, honey, toasted oak, and a lift of black pepper
- Palate: Rich and layered with whiskey character, toasted oak, cooked agave, baking spices, and salted caramel
- Finish: Lasting and spicy with a touch of cream
The Sassenach Select shines in an elevated Old Fashioned, where its salted caramel and baking spice notes take center stage, and it holds its own beautifully in a Tequila Sour with a touch of honey syrup.
Best enjoyed neat or over a single large ice cube to let the double wood complexity open up. Made with highland agave grown in the Tequila region of Jalisco, Mexico.
