Bozal Coyote Reserva Mezcal is a rare and compelling expression from one of the most adventurous producers in artisanal mezcal, crafted to honor the wild agave traditions of Oaxaca with uncompromising depth and character.

Bozal Mezcal has built its reputation on sourcing and celebrating agave varieties that most producers overlook, and the Coyote Reserva is a testament to that philosophy. Produced using traditional small-batch methods, this mezcal draws from the rugged terroir of Oaxaca, where indigenous agave plants grow slowly over many years, concentrating flavors that simply cannot be replicated at scale. The Reserva designation signals an elevated tier of production, reflecting extra care in the distillation and selection process.

  • Nose: Expect the hallmark complexity of a well-crafted artisanal mezcal, with earthy, roasted agave notes layered alongside subtle fruit, dried herb, and a whisper of smoke that invites exploration.
  • Palate: Rich and textured, the palate delivers roasted root, wild botanical character, and a savory depth that speaks to the unique agave varietal at its core, balanced by a gentle sweetness and mineral edge.
  • Finish: Long and contemplative, with lingering smoke, spice, and the clean earthiness that defines a truly expressive Oaxacan mezcal.

Bozal Coyote Reserva Mezcal shines when sipped neat, but its complexity also makes it a standout in a Oaxacan Old Fashioned or a smoky Mezcal Negroni where its wild character can anchor the cocktail with distinction.

Serve neat or with a single sphere of ice to let the spirit open gradually. Bozal Coyote Reserva is an artisanal mezcal rooted in the agave-rich highlands of Oaxaca, crafted for those who seek something genuinely untamed in their glass.

Bozal, Spanish for wild or untamed, bottles mezcal from family palenques in Oaxaca, Guerrero and Durango, much of it from wild agave on steep, hard-to-reach hillsides. Agave is roasted in earthen pits, crushed by stone tahona or wooden mallet, fermented open-air with natural yeast and distilled twice in copper or clay. The range runs from Ensamble and Single Maguey bottlings to Sacrificio mezcals distilled with meat or fruit and clay-pot Reserva releases. For every maguey harvested, two are planted in a mountainside nursery and returned to the wild.

Villa Sola de Vega sits at about 1,440 meters in Oaxaca's Sierra Sur, southwest of Oaxaca City on the road toward Puerto Escondido. The land is rugged, with oak and pine forest up high, scrub in the lower valleys, an average temperature near 18°C and the Sola River running through. Wild agaves such as Tobalá, Jabalí and Coyote grow across these slopes. The region is known for ancestral mezcal, still distilled in small clay pots by many local families.
